The game
ThisLife is a single-player life simulator. Your progress is stored only on your device. We don't host your saves, so deleting the app or losing your device deletes them, and we can't restore them.
We may update the game, change or remove features and content, or stop offering it. We try to keep what you've paid for working, as described below.
Your license
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use ThisLife on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. On iOS, this license is also limited by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms.
You may not:
- copy, modify, sell, rent or distribute the app or its content;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or take apart the app, except where the law allows it regardless of this term;
- interfere with the ads, purchases or security checks in the app, or use cheats or tools to obtain paid features without paying;
- use the app in any way that breaks the law.
We (and our licensors) own the app, its code, text, art and other content. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond the license above.
Remove ads and ThisLife+
Remove ads is an optional one-time purchase, sold on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It stops the ads between game years. Optional videos stay available, and some features still need one.
ThisLife+ is an optional monthly subscription, sold on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It removes ads and turns on the game's extra history and historical-figure layers. What it includes is shown on the purchase screen before you buy.
- Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
- Auto-renewal. The subscription renews automatically every month at the price shown in the app, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Managing and canceling. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials. If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged.
- Price changes. If the price changes, your app store tells you in advance, as its rules require.
- When a subscription ends. The ThisLife+ features stop, even partway through a life, and the free version returns. Nothing you earned in the game is deleted.
- Platforms. There are no accounts, so a purchase made on the App Store does not carry over to Android.
Refunds
Purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled only by Apple, under its policies. See the Support page for how to ask for one. This doesn't limit any refund rights you have under the law where you live.
Ads and videos
The free version uses ads. Short ads appear between game years. You can also choose to watch a video to open the history features for your current life, befriend a historical figure, leave a life early, or pause the ads between years for a limited time. A reward is granted only when the video finishes. If no ad is available, the video isn't offered at that moment. How ads use your data is explained in the Privacy Policy.
In-game money and items
Money, property, careers and everything else inside the game are fictional. They have no real-world value, can't be exchanged for real money or anything else of value, and can't be bought with real money. Gambling in the game is simulated. It uses no real money and pays out no real prizes.
Fiction and history
ThisLife is a work of fiction set against real history. Historical events are simplified, and historical figures appear as fictionalized characters. Their lines and behavior are invented for the game and don't represent the views of those people or anyone connected with them. The game's characters and lives are made up, and any resemblance to real living people is a coincidence.
The game contains mature themes, including crime, war, illness, death and simulated gambling. Nothing in it is medical, financial or legal advice.
Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will be error-free, uninterrupted or suit your purposes, and we disclaim all implied warranties. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost saves or data, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Ending these terms
You can end these terms at any time by deleting the app. We can end your license if you break these terms. Sections about ownership, disclaimers, liability and governing law continue after the terms end.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the game gets new features. We'll post the new version on this page with a new date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kyrgyzstan, except where the law of the country you live in gives you consumer protections that can't be overridden. You can bring a claim in the courts of your home country if its law allows.
App Store terms
If you downloaded ThisLife from Apple's App Store, these additional terms apply, and Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies too where these terms don't cover something:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If someone claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
